Embark on an unforgettable three-day journey through the lush landscapes and vibrant culture of the Mekong Delta. This tour offers a chance to immerse yourself in the natural beauty, rich history, and unique lifestyles of southern Vietnam. From bustling floating markets to serene forests, from local crafts to traditional folk music, this experience captures the spirit of the Delta and its people.
At 7:00 am, depart from Ho Chi Minh City. It’s a 1.5-hour drive to My Tho town, along which travelers can enjoy views of lush rice fields, the serene Vam Co Dong River, and bustling Long An town. The bus will stop at the Mekong rest stop, where you can take a break and explore a bonsai garden.
Upon arrival in My Tho, visit Vinh Trang Pagoda, the oldest ancient pagoda in southern Vietnam. Known for its unique architecture influenced by Vietnamese, Khmer, and European styles, it’s the largest pagoda in the Mekong Delta.
After visiting Vinh Trang Pagoda, the bus will take travelers to the boat pier, where you’ll board a motorized boat for a relaxing ride on the Tien River. Enjoy the fresh air and glimpse the peaceful lives of the locals, passing by stilt houses, floating fish farms, and the four islets: Dragon, Phoenix, Tortoise, and Unicorn.
Crossing the Rach Mieu Bridge, you’ll disembark at Thoi Son Islet on Phoenix Island. Take a leisurely walk through village paths, visit local homes and orchards, and enjoy seasonal fruits while listening to traditional southern folk music.
Then, visit a bee farm and try honey tea with lemon, which is both refreshing and healthy. Adventurous guests can take photos with pythons at a local python farm.
Continue the journey by hand-rowed sampan through narrow creeks lined with water coconut trees, a hallmark of the Delta region.
Return to the motorized boat and head to Ben Tre province, where you’ll visit a coconut candy workshop to see how these delicious treats are made by hand.
Enjoy lunch in an orchard garden, featuring the special dried Elephant Ear fish dish, a highlight of Mekong Delta cuisine.
After lunch, wander through village paths, breathing in the fresh air and observing rural life.
Finally, take a short walk to the bus and proceed to Chau Doc for an overnight stay.
Overnight in Chau Doc
After breakfast, visit Lady Xu Temple and Tay An Pagoda.
Then, transfer to the Tra Su Cajuput Forest, known for its nearly untouched natural beauty and diverse flora and fauna. A boat ride into the forest immerses you in the serene sights and sounds of nature, with fragrant cajuput flowers and the melodies of birds, insects, and animals. From the observation tower, take in the panoramic view of the 900-hectare forest, home to a variety of birds and other wildlife, including rare species.
Afterward, continue to Can Tho City.
Upon arrival in Can Tho, check into a standard hotel offering amenities like hot showers, towels, a minibar, air conditioning, TV, and Wi-Fi in each room.
Enjoy free time in the evening to explore the Tay Do Night Market, Ninh Kieu Wharf, or sample delicious local dishes.
Overnight in Can Tho
Start at 5:00 am with a stroll to Ninh Kieu Wharf. On the way, you’ll see the vibrant morning street market, filled with homemade products like fruits, vegetables, and cakes.
Take a boat ride on the river to the bustling Cai Rang Floating Market, one of the largest floating markets in southern Vietnam. Witness the unique business methods practiced in the floating market and soak in the lively atmosphere.
After exploring the market, visit a local place to see how rice vermicelli noodles are made, followed by a stop at an orchard garden. Stroll through the village and, for an extra challenge, try crossing a traditional bamboo bridge made from a single bamboo stalk.
Cruise back to Ninh Kieu Wharf and stop for lunch before returning to Ho Chi Minh City, arriving around 5:00 pm. End of services.
